At Greenfield we're excited to participate in research that may hold the key to better treatment and cure for patients with kidney disease.

West Pavilion Home Dialysis has recently completed a study that looks at the effects of early dialysis on a person's health and quality of life. We look forward to the published results of this study. West Pavilion is also participating in a number of other studies including one that looks at why patients choose Peritoneal Dialysis, what they like about it and, in some cases, what they don't like.

Another study is demonstrating the effectiveness of a new antibiotic on difficult infections. Finally, we'll also be involved in cutting edge research that is discovering new dialysis solutions, including one with no glucose (and therefore less calories!). Patients always have the option to participate in these studies or not. Many find it exciting and rewarding to be a part of research that not only helps them, but may also affect future patients.

Changes in technology
Cycler patients have begun using a new machine which tracks your blood pressure and weight automatically on a computer disk. When you bring your disk to clinic, your physician can give you a full record of your progress on CCPD.

On the horizon
Some peritoneal dialysis units in Europe are adding protein directly to dialysate solution so that patients need not eat protein in the high quantities now required. After FDA approval, these new dialysis solutions may be available in the United States.
